Jerry Higley has a B.A. in English from the University of Colorado, and a Doctor of Arts in English from the University of Oregon. He taught English for 15 years at the lower division college level at Lane Community College, Chemeketa Community College (at the Oregon State Penitentiary for Men), Northern Arizona University, the University of Oregon, and the University of Wisconsin. He is now retired after working 21 years for the Oregon Department of Transportation, primarily managing the DMV field offices in Portland and Eugene. He now lives near the ocean in South Beach, Oregon, with his wife Lori Ball, and especially enjoys reading for the Open Mic every month at the Nye Beach Writers’ Series in Newport.
